Ortho-Cresol is an organic compound with the formula CH₃C₆H₄. Ortho Cresol has a musty, phenolic aftertaste and is a colorless solid or liquid with a phenolic odor. It darkens on exposure to air. It is slightly soluble in water, sensitive to light and air, and may darken when exposed to air.

Found in various natural sources such as Acacial farnesiana, ylang-ylang oil, jasmine absolute, orange oil, Lilium candidum flowers, anise seed oil, Artemisia santolinoflia essence, sea algae, asparagus, peppermint oil, cheddar cheese, provolone cheese, butter, milk, fish, egg, pork, rum, Scotch whiskey, red wine, white wine, coffee, mango, cinnamon, Oriental tobacco, sherry, tea, tomato, and whiskey. Can be purified by repeated fractional distillation and crystallization from benzene or partial freezing of its melt. The 3,5-dinitrobenzoate is a crystallization method.
